Although most associated with blue, sapphire comes in a wide variety of colours. In fact, this September birthstone, traditional and modern, occurs in every colour except red. Sapphires are attached to many rich folklore and symbolic associations.  Traditionally the sapphire is believed to protect loved ones from harm, but in popular belief today the stone is associated with wisdom, purity and faith.
