Opal has a long and fascinating history. This gem began its formation millions of years ago, beginning as a liquid. After millions of years, the liquid crystalised and became the gemstone now famously known as Opal.
Opal is one of the most popular gemstones, due to their exquisite variety of colourful forms. This gemstone is most known for their colour play which is best described as a colourful fire within the stone. Opal is found in many different varieties such as Black Opal, White Opal, Boulder Opal and Fire Opal.
Opal has a hardness of 5.0 to 6.5 on Mohs scale. As a result, jewellers set this gemstone in a bezel setting. The colours of Opal add an extra splash of colour to an outfit!
